“What Hypnotherapy Really Is (And What It’s Not) – A Hypnotherapist’s Guide”

Hypnotherapy is mind control. This is a false statement. Let me explain. Our subconscious is like an alarm clock; it goes off when it wants to warn us of something or remind us of some choice we have previously made. Hypnosis is the process of setting the alarm clock. If we want to feel a certain way, if we want to behave a certain way, or if we want to believe or think a certain way then we can set the subconscious up through hypnosis to bring to our attention the desired outcome. However, just because an alarm goes off does not mean that we are getting out of bed.

Let's go letteral with this analogy. If you put yourself in a hypnotic state and then give yourself the suggestion to wake up at a certain time in the morning, imagining looking at your clock and seeing the time you want to wake up, allowing yourself to feel what it will be like when you see the clock and it is almost exactly the time you wanted to wake. When you wake up in the morning you will find that the clock says almost exactly the time you wanted, but that doesn't mean you have to get out of bed, you still have a choice. Someone on stage is receiving the alarm, "Dance like a chicken", but they chose to follow that subconscious prompt, they are not forced to behave that way.

Since 2019 I have been practicing hypnotherapy in the state of Utah. The biggest transformation I have seen is in my own life. I used to be afraid of my own shadow. When I was younger, I found myself sitting in front of a TV during Halloween time. I watched all the movies, "IT", "Chucky", "Fredy", "Halloween", and more. With that strong emotion of fear, I placed in my subconscious an alarm that screamed "You're not safe", every time I was alone or in the dark, just like the characters in the movies were alone or in the dark. I don't ever feel that way now, and I never have since one session of hypnosis.

I teach clients to use there subconscious as an alarm clock, helping them to remember making choices that will get them to their goals, but more than that I use hypnosis to help my clients become aware of the subconscious alarm clocks that are causing them to behave in unhelpful ways. Breaking old habits takes work, and with hypnotherapy the possibility of change is much higher, since you are awake to the choices you are making and no longer do things on aut

pilot.
